On the last question, worth pointing out that when CI's website was redone they changed their url formatting (have had a nightmare for the last year updating Wikipedia references).
Not uncommon, archiving or redirecting doesn't tend to be the top priority for web developers on a budget. Same thing happened with the ICC site all of their old media release links were changed, and Cricket Europe's move to a new host and insistence on moving everything to archive once it's a year old causes havoc too.
